The Bird Rescue Center
by Al Aiello, 5/14
One of the benefits of membership in the Sonoma County Falcons Chapter, is being part of a club that contributes to worthwhile causes. That is what the Chapter did on May 10, 2014. On that Saturday, chapter members toured the Bird Rescue Center in Santa Rosa and made a generous charitable contribution.
The Bird Rescue Center is a GREAT local organization that rescues thousands of birds each year. It is estimated that approximately 3,000 birds are brought to the Center every year. The birds are brought in from Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties. It is estimated that each bird costs approximately $41 each to rehabilitate and return to the wild. The Bird Rescue Center receives no funding from the County of Sonoma. The County does provide the space and the building for the Center, but the Center must rely on charitable contributions to save the birds! There are no paid employees on its staff, and it relies totally on volunteers. The only exception to that is when some special veterinary service or treatment is required.
Sonoma County Falcons for Fun Chapter members are proud of their association with this great organization. If you have not visited the Bird Rescue Center, you owe yourself a visit! More information regarding the organization is provided below.
