The River City and Sonoma County Falcons for Fun Chapters wish to thank all who attended and/or supported this year’s Pacific Regional. This year’s event was held at the Sacramento Marriott Hotel in Rancho Cordova, California. It was a two day event that was held on September 27-28, 2013.
The show kicked off at noon on Friday (9/27) with early registration and the opening of the Hospitality Room. The Hospitality and Registration room was conveniently located within 100 feet of the show field. As Friday afternoon slipped away, the Falcons (and a couple of Comets) lined up in the parking lot for a Friday Night Cruise. The caravan (headed by Falcon Sprints) departed the hotel parking lot at 5:00 pm and cruised to the nearby historic town of Folsom.
Along the scenic route, there was a stop at the main gate of Folsom Prison. The Folsom Prison that Johnny Cash sang about is California’s second-oldest prison, and one of the nation’s first maximum-security prisons. It was opened in 1880. It has quite an impressive original gate and the cruisers were allowed a unique photo opportunity.
On the way back to the hotel, the large group of cruisers stopped at Mel’s Diner for dinner. Mel’s is a long time favorite restaurant for Californians that has a ’50-’60s Drive-In motif. After dinner, the group meandered back to the hotel to get ready for the show on Saturday.
The show on Saturday (9/28) began at 8:00 am. It was a beautiful late summer day that eventually reached about 80 degrees in the afternoon. There was plenty of shade to keep things cool…and there were certainly plenty of “cool” Falcons at the show. There were Daily Driver, Stock, and Modified Classes.
There was a lot of room to spread out this at this year’s Pacific show. There was a good representation of Falcons to admire. Tom Mansell from the Sonoma Chapter brought his DJ equipment and provided some great tunes all day long. Tom was just one of many volunteers that made the show a success. Also, Teri Anticevich (and her daughter Marissa) assisted with our contract negotiations with the hotel. They both attended the event and helped to make sure that things went smoothly with the hotel.
The Sacramento Marriott Hotel in Rancho Cordova has a great venue for a car show! This is not the first Falcon show held here, and it will probably not be the last. It would certainly be a contender for a West Coast FCA National Convention.
The theme of this year’s event was the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Falcon Sprint (1963-2013). It was only fitting that the Best of Show Award went to a beautiful 1963 Falcon Sprint Hardtop, and there were 63 cars on the show field!
The car show ran its course until about 4:00pm. There was time for a bit of rest before the Awards Banquet held on Saturday night. The banquet was enjoyable and the company was great. Bob Knapik and his wife Allenya provided a beautiful slide show of the event and the class winners during the award ceremony.
The River City and Sonoma County Chapters wish to thank all of the people who attended the Regional. The Chapters also wish to thank all of the Sponsors who supported the show. It was a great event and the Pacific Region is looking forward to next year’s Regional that will be hosted by Golden Gate Chapter in the San Francisco Bay Area. Come join us if you are able!
